Movies

January 8th, 2007

I watched a movie recently that blew me away. It’s hard to do with all the fluffy stories and predictable action flicks, but this one was awesome. The name of the movie is “Brick”. I went into this movie not knowing what to expect and from the get go I was pulled in. They develope a unique lingo and way of speaking that’s genious. The movie has a great pace and mixed danger with brains. JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT from 3rd Rock from the Sun gave a stellar preformace as the main character Brendon. If you have the time I want you to rent it and watch it. Let me know what you think because I don’t want to spoil anything. Keep your eyes and ears alert as the movie rolls on because you’ll catch the little things here and there.

Jobs

January 8th, 2007

So it’s been awhile since I blogged and not because I didn’t have anything to say but because I just didn’t have the desire to. Sorry!

The Sephora job fell through at the last step in the interview process (3 interviews - crazy shit) so I continued to search for a job that would use my skills and not keep me bored and under paid. I found a job post for a QA for the web department of a tech company. I’m rather familiar with web stuff and applied. The first step landed me face to face with the Owner of the company. He was screening all applicants before sending them to the next step. He was cool and we seemed to understand each other so bam off to another interview. This time it was with #2 and #3 of the company but the focus wasn’t on QA but Web Projects Coordinator. Apparently they had multiple slots open and felt I would be best used in as the WPC. They made a offer that was acceptable so I was finaly in what I thought was a great job opportunity. A few weeks into the training I find out that the guy who’s training me is leaving the company. He had taken a job my sister had interviewed for but passed on and his 2 weeks notice was almost over. I was a bit pissed that I wasn’t informed of his departure till 2 days before he was leaving, and now didn’t have someone to fall back on if I got stuck. I asked my boss why I wasn’t told and he didn’t have a real answer. So now I am running the web depo. solo and had a crash course on what I needed to do. Now my boss (2nd in command) now changes what I learned and adds to it. That’s alot of bullshit in my opion. Now a month later I finaly get another person in to help me. I start training her to do what I do and 2 weeks later she quits. Come the fuck on. Now I am behind due to training and on top of that I now have all of her clients to deal with.

Time moves on and I keep wondering to myself if this is the place for me after all. Well after watching my boss pull my people off my projects w/o notification or asking me, I figured I was well on my way out the door.

Now here is the last thing that pushed me over the edge. In a strategy to get all the web clients into my basket and out of my boss’s I asked to take on the business’s website. Now the plan was good, but I hadn’t thought about how diffucult this project would be. You see I heard that it was 1) behind (like ALL there projects - Yes I did nothing but deal with angry clients my first month there) but no one told me how behind; 2nd I wasn’t even working there when this site started; 3rd Conversations and changes had been discussed but not written down in detail. Now I am supposed to hand the owner a deadline and my boss tells me it needs to be done in a week. With the week timeframe in mind I rallied my troops, talked about what still needed to be done, and they said it could be done in a week if that’s all they worked on. I set forth to make that so and tripple confirmed with my boss that no one gets to pull my people. A few hours pass and I see one of my guys get an IM and stop working on my projects and switch to my boss’s request. Talk about being dirty and out right sabatoge! He doesn’t bother to ask nor tell me later that he interupted my guys. Time moves on and it’s the deadline. I had a meeting set up and I was going to give a status update and request an extention. “Explosion” -Owner comes into my area infront of all my programmers hot- He started raining hell down on me because A) He’s overreacting B) I notice he’s with my boss because he purposely told the owner before my meeting that I didn’t have it done. The final knife had been hammered home and my boss planned it all along. My boss had been there for years and he seemed to be c lose friends with the owner. If I would have turned the tables on my boss, it would have been on deaf ears. After he left upset and with my boss I continued to work till quitting time and told my crew that I wasn’t coming back. I wrote up the status of the site and at the bottom my good bye letter and walked out the door.

Fuck those back stabbing little bitches.

It sucks making the decision to quit a job, but enough was enough.

I must say that being unemployed has been very nice!
